Friendswood - South Houston City Guide

Friendswood Is Just How It Sounds: Friendly

Friendswood is a small city of 36,000 people south of Houston and east of Clear Lake.

History

Founded in 1895 by Frank Jacob Brown and Thomas Lewis, Friendswood was a religious colony established by the Quakers, also known as Friends. CNN put the city on its “America’s Best Places To Live” list in 2007.

Entertainment

The best thing about Friendswood is that it’s close to some major venues in the Greater Houston area. For example, it’s a short drive away from Johnson Space Center and Space Center Houston, home of NASA. Space Center Houston offers great tours of parts of JSC, such as Mission Control and the room astronauts train in before they go into space.

Galveston Beach is also a short party bus or limo ride away from Friendswood, and there’s nothing better than a sun-drenched beach bash with a group of friends.

Dining

Friendswood also has great local restaurants like Perry & Sons Market and Grille. A family-owned, Houston-based meat market, it features various meats like NY strip steak to baby back ribs. The restaurant can also hold private events for up to 80 people, so you and a group of friends can hop in a limo and drive down for your next party.

Like most of Texas, Friendswood has a great selection of Mexican restaurants like Luna’s Mexican Restaurant. Fresh ingredients, great service and delicious margaritas are a staple of local restaurants like these.

Friendswood is located in a Texas sweet spot — right between a gorgeous gulf coast and the bustling city of Houston. Regardless of your purpose in Houston, a trip to Friendswood would be worth your while.
