Spring - North Houston City Guide

Get a taste of the old days in Spring

A quick drive north of downtown Houston is the quaint town of Spring, Texas. Founded in 1836, Spring is perhaps most famous for its shopping district, Old Town Spring, and its water park, SplashTown.

Old Town Spring

Old Town Spring was the original location of the town, but is now home to more than 150 shops set in restored buildings. Anything from antiques, to pet toys, to furniture and clothing can be found in Old Town Spring. Shoppers can walk from store to store or sit down and chat on the several benches and gazebos throughout the area. It’s the perfect way to start off a girls’ night out –shop during the day.

SplashTown

When walking outside in Texas, there’s one thing that will be made abundantly clear — it’s hot. Very hot. Luckily, Spring happens to be home to a massive water park that makes those hot days a little cooler. SplashTown, home to 17 different slides and pools, is the perfect destination for a Houston party bus or anyone looking to cool off. Some rides include the Texas Freefall, a five-story drop into a pool, and the Tornado, beginning 75 feet in the air and ending in a funnel holding 5,000 gallons of water. If slides aren’t your thing, SplashTown also has several pools to relax in. There’s no reason to pack lunch for the day, as there are six different dining locations located throughout the park, such as the Food-n-Fun Café. Make sure to book your bus reservation early though, as SplashTown is a popular destination. For just $35.99, you can beat the heat and have a fun-filled day at one of Houston’s premier water parks.

Parks

Spring also has several public parks sporadically located throughout town. Pundt Park is the area’s largest at 380 acres and has a canoe launch, dog park, picnic tables, hiking trails and two lakes available for fishing. In addition to parks, the town has several high-quality golf coursessuch as Cypresswood Golf Club, a 54-hole course encircled by forest.

Dining

There are also many great restaurants in Spring, like El Palenque Mexican Restaurant & Cantina. It has fantastic margaritas and in addition to great food. Wunsche Bros. Café and Saloon is another Spring staple that’s been around since 1902. Their juicy, daily-made burgers are legendary, and have drink specials every day of the week.

But perhaps most importantly, Spring is a place to get away from the busyness and noise of downtown Houston. It’s a place that is not only peaceful, but also quite calming. Few things feel as good as relaxing after a fun day at SplashTown, or morning of shopping in Old Town Spring. Regardless of why you’re visiting Texas, Spring is definitely one area you do not want to miss. Make sure to book a party bus or limo to make the trip even more enjoyable. Because there’s no denying it — most trips are better with friends.
